In Science, we a learning about plants. We studied the parts of a plant using virtual experiments. We discussed each part of the plant and why it is essential to the plant. Next we passed around a tray of seeds & a cut up apple, pear and avocado so the children can see that different plants have different seeds. We reinforced with a discussion that even the food we eat like tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots come from seeds. The children looked at a root window and planted some seeds. After a few days we studied the roots.
Finally we did an investiagation about plants. We took 2 containers and measured out soil and seeds. We were only allowed to change one variable and that was water or no water, so everything else we kept the same. We made sure to use the same type of seeds, same type of soil, same position in light, same number of seeds, same time observed.
After the weekend we noticed that the seeds which had been watered grew tall and the other seeds did not germinate. Even after a week the other seeds did not grow.
In conclusion, 1CD discovered that water is necessary for seeds to germinate and a plant to grow.
